1. Training Overview
The MSPO Awareness Training was conducted from 13 to 15 July 2026 as a three-day in-house programme for YPJ Plantations Sdn. Bhd., delivered online through the Zoom platform by Dhuha Shahrudin.
The programme was undertaken as part of YPJ Plantations’ initiative to develop internal competency and establish its own Internal Social Impact Assessment (SIA) Team.

The indicative results demonstrate a high level of participant satisfaction.
Participants were considered positive regarding the programme’s relevance to MSPO implementation, trainer knowledge, clarity of explanations, practical application of requirements and opportunity for discussion.
The combination of MSPO system governance, detailed standard interpretation and specialised SIA-related requirements was particularly relevant to YPJ Plantations’ objective of developing its own internal SIA competency.

The exercises enabled participants to move from general awareness towards practical interpretation by requiring them to discuss and apply MSPO requirements.
This is particularly important because the programme is intended to prepare the selected YPJ Plantations personnel for the next stage of competency development toward functioning as company-appointed SIA Internal Assessors.
6. Trainer Observation
The trainer observed positive engagement from the YPJ Plantations participants throughout the three-day programme.
Because the participants came from the same organisation, discussions could be contextualised around a common operational environment. This allowed MSPO requirements to be related more directly to YPJ Plantations’ management systems and plantation operations.
Participants demonstrated particular interest in:
- MSPO 2.0 implementation;
- social sustainability requirements;
- SIA;
- worker and employment matters;
- legal compliance;
- documentation and records;
- monitoring and measurement;
- internal audit;
- traceability; and
- organisational evidence of compliance.
The programme also helped participants appreciate that an effective SIA requires input from different organisational functions and should not be treated solely as the responsibility of a sustainability officer or a single department.
The group discussion and exercises on Day 3 were useful in reinforcing this understanding and preparing participants for more detailed SIA competency development.
Overall, participants demonstrated an appropriate foundational level of understanding for progression to dedicated MSPO SIA Basic Training.
7. Summary of Improvement Suggestions
Although no negative feedback was recorded, the following opportunities are recommended for strengthening future in-house programmes:
- Increase the number of exercises using actual YPJ Plantations operational scenarios.
- Include stakeholder-mapping exercises using the company’s real internal and external stakeholder groups.
- Provide sample SIA reports for review and discussion.
- Introduce practical exercises on positive and negative social-impact identification.
- Include more examples involving employees, contractors, neighbouring communities and vulnerable stakeholders.
- Provide practical examples of baseline social information.
- Introduce sample stakeholder consultation records.
- Include examples of Social Management Plans and monitoring indicators.
- Link MSPO requirements more extensively with actual company documentation.
- Continue using group exercises to encourage cross-functional participation.
These are continual-improvement opportunities and do not represent dissatisfaction with the training.

YPJ Plantations should identify and formally appoint suitable personnel from the trained group to form a multidisciplinary Internal SIA Team.

Following SIA competency training, the team should begin compiling baseline information relevant to the company’s operating units, workforce, contractors, communities and other affected stakeholders.

The internal team should identify:

Training, assessment, appointment, experience and subsequent SIA activities should be documented as evidence of competency.
